Crematory

Updated: Mar 9, 2019

Auschwitz contained five crematories, one at the main camp (Auschwitz I) and four at Birkenau. At full capacoty the crematories could burn up to 10,000 bodies in a twenty-four hour period.

When designing the crematory they designed it similar to the bath house, this way prisoners would assume they were receiving a rare shower and would be eager to get inside. Then once they were inside they would lock the doors and fill the chambers with deadly gas, and then would be able to move the lifeless bodies to the ovens to burn the evidence.

A: Room for undressing B: Gas Chambers C: Ovens D: Chimneys
